"Drawing machines, that is, mechanisms that assist in the act of drawing or even draw automatically, have been invented regularly for over 500 years. In recent decades, various contemporary artists have created drawing-machine works, shifting the aura of artistic creation from manual craftsmanship to mechanical planning, questioning concepts of authorship, and more. Luca Parise didn't think about any of this before creating his drawing machine, which bears little resemblance to what we typically associate with a machine, nor does it exactly produce what is conventionally called a drawing. It is a strange and fascinating blend of map cabinet, automated ecosystem, and flytrap, producing works of art and can be operated by anyone with its instruction manual in hand.

The artwork-machine created by Luca Parise, seen for the first time in public now, in this solo project at SP-Arte, emerged in one of the final stages of plastic solutions to solve a series of problems, mostly invented. A succession of "folds," as the artist defines, referring to gestures that overlap and subvert meanings, easy at first, almost impossible after successive folds."
